Extended Leaves (FMLA and PFML)

For leave that is anticipated to extend beyond five (5) days, employees are requested to review the Extended Leave Request Form, and if applicable, submit the completed form to Human Resources.

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Federal law entitles full-time employees up to twelve (12) weeks of paid or unpaid leave with paid health insurance benefits. The employee must obtain required medical certification to be eligible. They must have been employed at least twelve (12) months and have worked 1,250 hours to qualify. The qualifying events are: the birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care; to bond with a child (leave must be taken within one year of the child’s birth or placement); to care for the employee's spouse, child, or parent who has a qualifying serious health condition; for the employee's own qualifying serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the employee's job; or for qualifying exigencies related to the foreign deployment of a military member who is the employee's spouse, child, or parent.

Washington State Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML)

As of Jan. 1, 2020, Washington employees who have worked 820 hours or more in the qualifying period and experience(d) a qualifying event have access to Paid Family and Medical Leave.

Employees who have missed work due to family or medical reasons may be eligible for paid family or medical leave for the following qualifications: care for and bond with a child younger than 18 following birth or placement; care for the employee or a family member experiencing a serious health condition; or certain military-connected events.
